JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Agricultural Engineering in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 337 to 343 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Agricultural Engineering in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any from Introduction to Agricultural Science, Materials and Workshop Process and Machining, Tractor Layout Power Unit Under Carriage and Auto Electricity; Transmission System; Implement and Machine; Principles of Crop Husbandry and Land Use, Materials and Workshop Processes; Construction and Maintenance of Agricultural Machines; general Metal Work; General Wood Work and Building/Engineering Drawing.
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Agricultural Engineering in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Agricultural Engineering is as follows:
Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
Direct Entry requirements to study Agricultural Engineering in Nigerian universities
‘A’ Level passes or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics.
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) ABU requires:
a. two (2) ‘A’ level/IJMB Passes in Mathematics, and Physics or Chemistry.
b. ND with at least Upper Credit in Agricultural Engineering from accredited institution.
c. HND Lower Credit in Agricultural Engineering from accredited institution.
(ii) ABUAD and LAUTECH – Same as in Chemical Engineering.
(iii) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(iv) FUNAAB and MAUTY accepts ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalents. FUNAAB accepts ND upper credit in Agricultural Engineering or relevant programmes.
(v) FUTA accepts:
a) OND at upper credit level or equivalent professional qualification in Agricultural Engineering; or b) ‘A’ Level passes at one sitting in at least two (2) of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(vi) FUTO requires:
a) At least two (2) ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
b) ND/HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
c) First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements.
(vii) IBADAN accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics plus UTME requirements. Accepts ND/HND upper credit to 200/300 levels plus UTME requirements. Knowledge of Further Mathematics is an advantage for all Engineering Courses.
(viii) ILORIN accepts:
a) 200 Level
‘O’ Level Credits in five (5) subjects; English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any one of the following subjects Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing at Credit levels. In addition, Direct Entry Candidates are required to have A- Level /IJMB or approved equivalent pass in Mathematics (Pure, Applied or pure and Applied), Physics and Chemistry or a National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering or a relevant Engineering Discipline at Distinction or Upper Credit level from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology plus at least one year Post ND Experience.
b) 300 Level
‘O’ Level Credits in five (5) subjects;
English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any one of the following subjects Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing at Credit levels. In addition, Direct Entry Candidates in this category are required to possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural Engineering or a relevant Engineering Discipline, at distinction or Upper Credit level from a recognized Polytechnic or a College of Technology.
(ix) LAUTECH, MAIDUGURI, IBADAN and MINNA accept ND/HND upper credit. LAUTECH, ILORIN and FUNAAB accept three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
(x) MAIDUGURI requires ND lower credit/merit or nine (9) points in IJMB.
(xi) MAKURDI accepts:
a) two (2) ‘A’ Level/IJMB passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
b) HND upper credit and first class degree in relevant programmes.
c) HND lower credit/ND upper credit, and NCE Technical.
d) NCE credit in relevant programmes plus UTME requirements.
(xii) NDU accepts:
a) at least three (3) ‘A’ Level passes or equivalents in Physics, Mathematics/Further Mathematics and Chemistry and five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics/Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Admission should be to 200 level of study in a five (5) year degree programme.
b) ND/HND upper credit and above, in the relevant programmes from an approved Polytechnic or related institution. ND holders shall be admitted to the 200 level or study in a five (5) year degree programme while HND holders shall be admitted to 300 level. In addition to the above, candidates must have five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics/Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xiii) OAU requires two (2) A’ level passes in Physics, Pure Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics and Chemistry or ND upper credit.
(xiv) RSU in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:
(a) HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
(b) OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant disciplines.
(c) At least three (3) ‘A’ Level passes at GCE in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language.
(xv) UMUDIKE accepts ND/HND with good grades in relevant programmes.
(xvi) LANDMARK accepts A Level passes or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics.
(xvii) MAUTY accepts:
a) GCE `A’ Level credit passes in Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
b) Lower Credit in OND/HND Agric. Engineering or any other relevant field.
c) IJMB 7 points minimum in English, Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics.
(xviii) UNN accepts:
a) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus UTME requirements.
b) HND/ND/NCE in relevant programmes
c) complete pass in Intermediate ICAN examination or equivalent
d) Pass in final examinations of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) ABU accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject. (Including Economics, Technical Drawing, Metalwork and Woodwork).
(ii) AUE accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Biology or Agricultural Science as the fifth subject.
(iii) BAUCHI accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.
(iv) BAYERO requires five (5) ‘O’ Level passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
(v) ESUTECH accepts ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language and all relevant subjects.
(vi) FED-OYE EKITI requires five (5) credits at SSC (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other Science subject from Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(vii) FUNAAB requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
viii) FUTA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject at not more than two (2) sittings.
(ix) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Biology.
(x) IBADAN requires five (5) or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one (1) or two (2) sittings to include English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with any one (1) or two (2) of Biology/ Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Technical. Drawing, Economics, Geography, Metal Work, and Wood Work.
(xi) ILORIN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit pass in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any one of the following subjects Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing at Credit levels.
(xii) LANDMARK requires Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one other science subject (selected from Further Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Biology, Technical Drawing, Food and Nutrition.
(xiii) LAUTECH accept Biology in lieu of Agricultural Science.
(xiv) MAIDUGURI requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one from Biology, Geography, Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics or Technical Drawing at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xv) MAKURDI requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any two (2) of English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Geography and Economics. Also accepts Federal Craft Certificate or WAEC Technical. All candidates must have obtained at least ‘O’ Level pass in English Language.
(xvi) MAUTY requires Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Tech. Drawing/ Agric. Sci./Geography/ Further Mathematics/ Marketing/Auto Mechanical Work/Auto Mechanics.
(xvii) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xviii) UNN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xix) MINNA requires English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics, Chemistry.
(xx) RSU accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics and any other subject.
Special considerations for UTME subjects
(i) BAUCHI accepts Agricultural Science or Biology.
(ii) LANDMARK requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(iii) OOU requires any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(iv) OSUSTECH requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Sciences and Physics/Mathematics.
(v) FUTA requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(vi) MAIDUGURI requires Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry or Biology or Agricultural Science.
(vii) FUTO requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(viii) ILORIN requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(ix) MAUTY requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(x) ABU requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Nigerian universities where you can study Agricultural Engineering
