JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY CIVIL ENGINEERING IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Civil Engineering in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the engineering faculty of any Nigerian university to study Civil Engineering. You will also see a list of Nigerian universities where you can study Civil Engineering as well as other related courses.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Civil Engineering in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 355 to 363 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This article aims to make the information more handy and accessible to all parents and guardians as well as students who wish to study Civil Engineering in any university in Nigeria.
UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Civil Engineering in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one Science subject
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Civil Engineering in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Civil Engineering is as follows:
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
Direct Entry requirements to study Civil Engineering in Nigerian universities
(i) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
(ii) ND/HND upper credit at appropriate levels.
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) RSU in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:
(a) HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
(b) OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant disciplines.
(c) At least three (3) ‘A’ level passes at GCE in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(ii) ABU accepts;
i. Two ‘A’ level/IJMB Passes which must include Mathematics Chemistry or Physics.
ii. ND in Civil Eng. at Upper Credit from accredited institution.
iii. HND in Civil Eng. with at least Lower Credit from accredited institution.
(iii) ABUAD requires three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(iv) ABUAD, AAU, FUTO and UYO accept ND upper credit, HND lower credit in relevant areas plus UTME requirements.
(v) ABUJA accepts HND lower credit or ND upper credit in Civil Engineering from accredited institutions plus UTME requirements into 200 level.
(vi) BAYERO, UNN, LAUTECH and MAUTY accept ‘A’ Level pass in Chemistry.
(vii) BENIN – As in Chemical Engineering.
(viii) COOU accepts ND/HND lower credit in Civil Engineering.
ix) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(x) FUNAAB requires `A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent. It accepts ND upper credit in Civil Engineering or relevant programmes.
(xi) FUTA requires;
a) OND upper credit level in Civil Engineering from recognised institutions; or
b) ‘A’ Level or equivalent passes at one sitting with at least six (6) points in two (2) of the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
(xii) FUTO requires;
a) At least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C in Physics and Mathematics.
b) OND / HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Building Technology, Architecture, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering. Surveying and Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
c) First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Building Technology, Architecture, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements.
(xiii) IGBINEDION requires second ‘A’ Level should be taken from Mathematics and Chemistry. IGBINEDION accepts
a) ‘O’ Level credit pass in Chemistry
b) ND/HND upper credit into 200 and 300 levels respectively.
c) ND in any Engineering related programmes.
(xiv) ILORIN – Same as Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering. Relevant Programmes include ND Civil Engineering and Water Resources Engineering.
(xv) JOS requires two (2) ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Accepts ND credit in Civil Engineering or related programmes from a recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.
(xvi) LAGOS requires Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. ‘A’ level Cambridge HND (Upper Credit) in Civil Engineering courses. ND (Distinction) in Civil Engineering courses.
(xvii) MAKURDI – Same as in Agricultural Engineering
(xviii) MAUTY accepts:
a) GCE `A’ Level and IJMB passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
b) Lower credit in OND/HND Civil Engineering and other relevant Field.
c) IJMB 7 points minimum in English, Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics
(xix) MAUTY accepts
a) GCE `A’ Level and IJMB passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
b) ND upper/lower credit in relevant programmes.
(xx) MINNA accepts ND/HND lower credit from recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language and Chemistry.
(xxi) NDA requires the other Science subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
(xxii) NDU – Same as in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.
(xxiii) NILE – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(xxiv) OAU accepts ND/HND upper credit in Civil Engineering.
(xxv) OAU, BENIN – Same as for Chemical Engineering.
(xxvi) OSUSTECH – Same as in Chemical Engineering. Accepts A’ level pass in Chemistry.
(xxvii) PHC accepts Three (3) Advanced level GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, including UTME entry requirements. OND (upper credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution including UTME entry requirements. HND (lower credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution with two (2) years working experience including UTME entry requirements.
(xxviii) UMUDIKE and IBADAN – As for Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.
(xxix) UNIOSUN accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Accepts ND lower credit in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
(xxx) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
(xxxi) EUI accepts:
a) Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
b) OND/HND not below credit level.
c) Very good passes in JUPEB/IJMB subjects: Literature in English and two (2) Arts or Social Sciences.
d) B.Sc. in Relevant field not below Second Class Lower.
(xxxii) KSUSTA accepts ND/HND Lower credit at appropriate levels.
(xxxiii) LANDMARK accepts A Level passes in Physics and Mathematics. ND/HND upper credit at appropriate levels.
(xxxiv) DELSU requires:
a) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent.
b) Merit in DELSU Diploma in Engineering
c) ND in Engineering from Polytechnics with a grade not below Upper Credit.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) COOU accepts ‘O’ Level pass in English Language.
(ii) ESUTECH requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language and all relevant subjects.
(iii) FED-OYEEKITI five (5) Credits at SSC (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other Science subject from Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(iv) FUNAAB requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in Biology.
(v) FUTA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes or equivalents at NOT more than two (2) sittings including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics English Language and any other Science subject.
(vi) MAKURDI and FUNAAB same as in Agricultural Engineering.
(vii) IBADAN – As for Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.
(viii) JOS requires credit pass in Additional or Further Mathematics as the fifth subject.
(ix) LAGOS requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(x) MAUTY requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Technical Drawing /Agricultural Science / Further Mathematics/ Block laying, Brick Laying and Concrete Work/ Air Conditioning and refrigeration/ Plumbing and Pipe Fitting/Machine Wood Working/Painting and Decoration.
(xi) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xii) RSU accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics and any other subject.
(xiii) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
(xiv) MINNA requires ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one of Further Mathematics, Geography, Technical Drawing, Building Technology, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(xiv) NDA requires one other Science/Technical subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology, Geography and Building Engineering Drawing.
(xv) EUI requires five (5) credit passes at SSC or its equivalent to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other Science subject.
(xvi) DELSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in the SSC or its equivalent (at not more than two (2) sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xvii) MARITIME-UNI requires five (5) at SSCE or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science/Further Mathematics/Data Processing/Technical Drawing.
(xviii) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Biology.
(xix) LAGOS requires Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xx) KSUSTA requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one Science subject.
(xxi) ABU accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject. (Including Economics, Technical Drawing, Metalwork and Woodwork).
(xxii) PHC requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language and any other subject from Biology, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics.
(xxiii) LANDMARK requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one other Science subject (Further Mathematics, Agricultural science and Technical Drawing).
Special considerations for UTME SUBJECTS
(i) UNN – As in Agric Engineering.
(ii) NILE – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(iii) FUTA requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(iv) MAIDUGURI requires Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry or Biology or Agricultural Science.
(v) AFIT-DEG requires Mathematics, Physics and any other subject from Chemistry, Geography and Biology.
(vi) FUTO requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(vii) MAUTY requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(viii) LAGOS requires English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics.
(ix) KSUSTA requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(x) ABU requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(xi) PHC requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(xii) LANDMARK requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Nigerian universities where you can study Civil Engineering
FUTO with options in:
