The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Common Law in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 429 and 430 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This article aims to make the information more handy and accessible to all parents and guardians as well as students who wish to study Common Law in any university in Nigeria.
UTME / O’ LEVEL SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY COMMON LAW IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
The UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Common Law in Nigerian universities are as follows:
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Literature – in – English and any other three (3) Arts/Social Science subjects.
JAMB UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY COMMON LAW IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Common Law is as follows:
Literature in English and any two (2) other Arts/or Social Science subjects.
DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY COMMON LAW IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in GCE/IJMB in Arts or Social Science subjects.
- First degree (Second Class Lower) of an accredited University.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR DIRECT ENTRY
1. ILORIN accepts:
a) At least, two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in GCE/IJMB/JUPEP or its equivalent in Arts or Social Science subjects.
b) Diploma in Law* (Upper Credit) from recognised institutions.
c) First degree from a recognised University.
d) The following qualifications may be considered in lieu of ‘A’ Level subjects for Direct entry admission, H.N.D., A.C.I.S., ACA, A.C.C., LL. B (Inter) of University of London and N.C.E.
e) Such Candidate must meet the UTME entry requirements stated above.
Degree holders need not possess Literature in English.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR UTME
ILORIN accepts five (5) ‘O’ level (SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB/ etc.) credit passes in Arts/Social Sciences/Commercial subjects including English language, Literature in English and Mathematics.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR UTME SUBJECTS
LORIN requires Arts or Social Science subjects including Literature in English.
