JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the engineering faculty of any Nigerian university to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 375 to 383 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This article aims to make the information more handy and accessible to all parents and guardians as well as students who wish to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in any university in Nigeria.
UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and any other Science subject.
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Electrical/Electronics Engineering is as follows:
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
Direct Entry requirements to study Electrical/Electronics Engineering in Nigerian universities
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) ABUAD and CRUTECH – same as in Civil Engineering
(ii) BAUCHI, AAU, and LAUTECH do not accept D7 in English Language
(iii) BELLS same as in Computer Engineering.
(iv) BENIN – Same as in Chemical Engineering.
(v) COOU accepts ND/HND/lower credit in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering.
(vi) EKSU accepts ND upper credit in Electrical Engineering and HND lower credit in Electrical Engineering.
(vii) ESUTECH and BAUCHI accept ND/HND in relevant programmes with UTME requirements.
(viii) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(ix) FUNAAB accepts ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalents. Accepts ND upper credit in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or relevant programmes
(x) FUTA accepts;
a) ND with a minimum of upper credit level or equivalent in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from accredited and recognised Polytechnics institutions; or
b) ‘A’ Level or equivalent in at least two (2) of the following; Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics with grades not lower than B.
(xi) FUTO requires;
a) At least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.
b) OND/HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Geology, Computer Science or Engineering.
c) First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Geology, Computer Science, or Engineering.
d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements.
(xii) ILORIN – 200 Level
In addition to O’Level and Post-UTME requirements, candidates must have either of the following:
a) A’Level IJMB or approved equivalent Pass at credit level in Mathematics, Pure or Applied Physics, and Chemistry with a minimum of 10 points.
b) OND (Distinction or Upper Credit) in Electrical Engineering or a Relevant Engineering Discipline, from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology, plus at least one year post diploma experience.
300 Level In addition to the requirements into 200 level, candidates in this category are required to possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline, at Distinction or Upper Credit level from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology.
In addition to O’Level and Post-UTME requirements, candidates with any of the following qualifications may be considered:
c) First Degree from Physics, Telecommunications Science at Second Class Upper Division may be admitted into 200 Level.
d) First Degree Honours in Engineering discipline with minimum of second class lower may be admitted into 300 Level.
(xiii) JOS requires ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It also accepts ND (credit level) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related programmes from recognised institutions. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.
(xiv) LAUTECH accepts:
a) ‘A’ Level passes in Pure Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics or Chemistry.
b) ND/HND Upper credit in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering plus UTME requirements.
(xv) MAUTY accepts:
(a) GCE `A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
(b) Lower Credit in OND/HND In Electrical/Electronic Eng. or any other relevant field
(c) IJMB 7 points minimum in English, Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics
(xvi) NDA requires the other Science subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
(xvii) NDU, MAKURDI and FUNAAB – Same as in Agricultural Engineering.
(xviii) NILE and UYO – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(xix) OAU accepts ND/HND upper credit.
(xx) NDU – No Direct Entry.
(xxi) UMUDIKE and OOU accept ND/HND into appropriate levels plus the UTME requirements.
(xxii) UNIOSUN accepts ND lower credit in Electrical/Electronics.
(xxiii) UNIZIK accepts first degree in relevant programmes
(xxiv) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
(xxv) EUI accepts;
a) Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
b) OND/HND not below credit level.
c) Very good passes in JUPEB/IJMB subjects: Literature in English and two (2) Arts or Social Sciences.
d) B.Sc. in Relevant field not below Second Class Lower.
(xxvi) DELSU requires:
a) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or equivalent.
b) Merit in DELSU Diploma in Engineering.
c) ND in Engineering from Polytechnics with a grade not below Upper Credit.
(xxvii) FUPRE requires ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(xxviii) LAGOS accepts Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. ‘A’ level Cambridge HND/ND (Upper Credit) in related Engineering courses.
(xxix) PHC accepts Three (3) Advanced level GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, including UTME entry requirements. OND (upper credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution including UTME entry requirements. HND (lower credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution with two (2) years working experience including UTME entry requirements.
(xxx) LANDMARK accepts Two (2) A Level passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
(xxxi) PAN-ATLANTIC – In addition to ‘O’ Level requirements, candidates must have passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at GCE ‘A’ Level or equivalent.
(xxxii) CARITAS accepts:
a) Bachelor’s Degree in one (1) of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry.
b) NCE/ND/HND Lower credit in one (1) of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry.
c) GCE A’Level/IJMB/JUPEB Passes in Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) BELLS same as in Computer Engineering.
(ii) COOU and ESUTECH accept ‘O’ Level pass in English Language.
(iii) COVENANT requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and either of Further Mathematics, Biology or Technical Drawing.
(iv) FED-OYE EKITI requires five (5) credits at SSC (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other Science subject from Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(v) FUNAAB requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
(vi) FUTA requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and any other Science subject at NOT more than two (2) sittings.
(vii) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Biology.
(viii) IBADAN and MAKURDI – Same as Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.
(ix) JOS – Same as Civil Engineering.
(x) LAGOS requires Five O/Level credit passes in English, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xi) MAUTY requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Technical Drawing/ Further Mathematics/ Geography/ Electrical installation and Maintenance Work/GSM maintenance/ Computer Studies and IT/ Basic Electricity/Electronics.
(xii) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xiii) NILE accepts:
(a) English Language, Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry and any other two (2) Science subjects.
(b) ‘O’ Level credit pass in Geography as the fifth Science subject.
(xiv) OSUSTECH requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in Further Mathematics.
(xv) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
(xvi) UYO – As in Computer Engineering.
xvii) NDA requires one other Science/Technical subject from Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Electronic Engineering and Basic Electricity.
(xviii) EUI requires five (5) credit passes at SSC or its equivalent to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other Science subject.
(xix) DELSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in the SSC or its equivalent (at not more than two (2) sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xx) ILORIN – UTME candidates are required to obtain O’Level credits in Five (5) subjects which include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, and any other relevant subject such as Further Mathematics in no more than two (2) sittings.
(xxi) CARITAS requires Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject.
(xxii) PHC requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language and any other subject from Biology, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics.
(xxiii) LANDMARK requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and either credit pass in Further Mathematics, Biology or Technical Drawing.
(xxiv) PAN-ATLANTIC requires credit passes in at least five (5) subjects at ‘O’ Level in a nationally recognised examination including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and other acceptable Science subject at not more than two (2) sittings. It is desirable for candidates to pass Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing at credit level. Such candidates shall have added advantage.
Special considerations for UTME SUBJECTS
(i) NILE – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(ii) OOU requires any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science.
(iii) FUTA requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(iv) MAIDUGURI requires Mathematics, Physics and any of Chemistry or Biology or Agricultural Science.
(v) AFIT-DEG requires Mathematics, Physics and any other subject from Chemistry, Geography and Biology.
(vi) FUTO requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
(vii) ILORIN requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(viii) CARITAS requires Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
(ix) MAUTY requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(x) LAGOS requires English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics.
(xi) PHC requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
(xii) LANDMARK requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(xiii) PAN-ATLANTIC requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
