JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Electrical Engineering in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the engineering faculty of any Nigerian university to study Electrical Engineering. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Electrical Engineering in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 373 to 375 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Electrical Engineering in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and any other Science subject.
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Electrical Engineering in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Electrical Engineering is as follows:
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
Direct Entry requirements to study Electrical Engineering in Nigerian universities
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) ABU accepts:
a) Two A level/IJMB passes which must include Physics and Mathematics.
b) ND or equivalent in Electrical Eng. or relevant field, with minimum of Upper Credit from accredited institution.
c) HND with at least lower credit in Electrical Engineering from accredited institution.
d) ABU Diploma in Computer Engineering with a Minimum of Merit.
(ii) ABUJA accepts HND lower credit or ND upper credit in Electrical Engineering from accredited institutions plus UTME requirements into 200 level.
(iii) LASU accepts ND/HND upper credit in relevant programmes for a four (4) year programme.
(iv) LASU Same as in Mechanical Engineering.
(v) MINNA accepts ND/HND lower credit in relevant programmes plus five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and one other science subject.
(vi) PHC – No Direct Entry.
(vii) RSU in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:
(a) HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
(b) OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant disciplines.
(c) At least three (3) ‘A’ level passes at GCE in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
(viii) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) LASU Same as in Mechanical Engineering.
(ii) PHC requires the fifth ‘O’ level credit pass in any Science subject preferably Further Mathematics.
(iii) RSU accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics and any other subject.
(iv) UNN – Same as in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering.
(v) MARITIME-UNI requires five (5) credits at SSCE or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science/Further Mathematics/Data Processing/Technical Drawing.
(vi) ABU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject. (Including Economics, Technical Drawing, Metalwork and Woodwork).

i. ABU requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
