JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY PETROLEUM ENGINEERING IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Petroleum Engineering in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the engineering faculty of any Nigerian university to study Petroleum Engineering. You will also see a list of Nigerian universities where you can study Petroleum Engineering and other related courses.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Petroleum Engineering in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 370 to 373 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This article aims to make the information more handy and accessible to all parents and guardians as well as students who wish to study Petroleum Engineering in any university in Nigeria.
UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Petroleum Engineering in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credits to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any one Science subject.
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Petroleum Engineering in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Petroleum Engineering is as follows:
Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
Direct Entry requirements to study Petroleum Engineering in Nigerian universities
‘A’ Level passes to include Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) BAUCHI accepts ND/HND in related Engineering programmes plus UTME requirements.
(ii) FUTO requires:
a) At least two ‘A’ Level passes not below Grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
b) OND / HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
c) First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet UTME ‘O’ Level requirements.
(iii) IGBINEDION accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes to include Physics plus one of Mathematics and Chemistry. Accepts ND in Engineering related programmes.
(iv) LAGOS accepts Very good passes in JUPEB subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. A ‘level Cambridge HND/ND (Upper credit).
(v) NDU and IBADAN-As in Agricultural Engineering.
(vi) NILE – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(vii) OSUSTECH, ABUAD, FUTO and BENIN- As in Chemical Engineering.
(viii) PHC accepts Three (3) Advanced level GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, including UTME entry requirements. OND (upper credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution including UTME entry requirements. HND (lower credit) in the relevant discipline from a recognized and COREN accredited institution with two (2) years working experience including UTME entry requirements.
(ix) RSU in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:
(a) HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
(b) OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant disciplines.
(c) At least three (3) ‘A’ level passes at GCE in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
(x) UYO accepts ND/HND in relevant programmes plus UTME requirements.
(xi) FUPRE requires ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) BENIN – As in Chemical Engineering.
(ii) IBADAN – As in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.
(iii) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other subject at not more than two (2) sittings.
(iv) NILE – Same as in Computer Engineering.
(v) OSUSTECH and LAGOS requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in Further Mathematics.
(vi) RSU accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics and any other subject.
(vii) MARITIME-UNI requires five (5) credits at SSCE or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science/Further Mathematics/Data Processing/Technical Drawing.
(viii) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Biology.
(ix) LAGOS requires Five O/Level credit passes in English, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
(x) PHC requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language and any other subject from Biology, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics
Special considerations for UTME SUBJECTS
i) FUTO requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
ii) LAGOS requires English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
iii) PHC requires Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
Nigerian universities where you can study Petroleum Engineering
FUTO with options in:
(i) Drilling and Exploration Engineering Technology.
(ii) Reservoir Engineering Technology
(iii) Natural Engineering Technology
(iv) Petroleum Production Eng.
