JAMB REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY PHYSIOLOGY IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2023/2024
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Physiology in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the medical faculty of any Nigerian university to study Physiology. You will also see a list of Nigerian universities where you can study Physiology. Some universities offer the course as Human Physiology. The requirements to study Human Physiology are the same as that of Physiology which you will see in this article.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Physiology in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 460 to 463 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). This article aims to make the information more handy and accessible to all parents and guardians as well as students who wish to study Physiology in any university in Nigeria.
UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Physiology in Nigerian universities
The UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Pharmacy in Nigerian universities are as follows:
Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Physiology in Nigerian universities
Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Direct Entry requirements to study Physiology in Nigerian universities
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes chosen from Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Zoology.
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) AAU – Same as for Medical Laboratory. Science.
(ii) ABUAD requires three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Zoology
(iii) BENIN accepts:
a) three (3) ‘A’ Level passes or equivalents at not more than two (2) sittings. The Subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements.
b) at least a second class lower division in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology and Botany.
(iv) CALABAR and PHC – No direct entry
(v) IBADAN – As for Biochemistry.
(vi) ILORIN requires Two (2) ’A’ Level passes chosen from Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Zoology. It also requires ‘A’ Level passes from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. (vii) LAGOS accepts JUPEB/‘A’ -level passes in Physics Chemistry and Biology. B.Sc. Degree (first class/second class upper) in Medical related fields.
(viii) LAUTECH accepts ‘A’ Level passes in Biology and Chemistry or Physics or ND/HND upper credit in relevant programme.
(ix) FED-DUTSE requires three (3) ‘A’ Level subjects in Biology, Chemistry and Physics obtained ftom IJMB. (x) ABU accepts ‘A’ Level/IJMB Passes in three subjects in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology.
(xi) DELSU requires:
a) HSC or GCE ‘A’ Level or its equivalent passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology (Botany may be accepted in lieu of Biology or Zoology.
b) First degree in relevant Biological Sciences not below Second Class Lower Division.
(xii) PHC accepts Three (3) A/Level passes in JUPEB or IJMB or GCE or HSC Passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology including UTME entry requirements.
(xiii) EUI accepts Two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology in addition to UTME requirements. BSc. etc in a relevant field. OND/HND in related courses with Credit pass plus O’ level entry requirement. IJMB/JUPEB.
(xiv) FUTA requires:
a) A minimum of Upper Credit at National Diploma Level from recognised Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in relevant disciplines; or
b) ‘A’ Level passes or its equivalent (such as GCE Cambridge, JUPEB etc.) at one sitting in at least two (2) Science subjects including Biology.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) BENIN requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes or equivalents at not more than two (2) sittings. The subjects should include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(ii) IBADAN – As in Medicine and Surgery.
(iii) ILORIN accepts five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Maths, Physics. Chemistry and Biology/Zoology.
(iv) DELSU requires SSC ‘O’ Level or its equivalent with credit passes in at least five (5) subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two (2) sittings.
(v) FED-DUTSE requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
(vi) RSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics.
(vii) FUTA requires five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(viii) LAGOS requires Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
(ix) ABU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(x) PHC requires Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(xi) EUI requires Five Credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings.
Special considerations for UTME subjects
(i) BABCOCK – Same as for Anatomy.
(ii) OOU accepts any three (3) of Physics Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
(iii) ILORIN requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology. (iv) LAGOS requires English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. (v) ABU requires Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(vi) PHC requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
(vii) EUI requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology
