JAMB REQUIREMENTS AND UNIVERSITIES TO STUDY HAUSA IN NIGERIA, YOUR USEFUL GUIDE IN 2024/2025
This article will accurately guide you through the requirements to study Hausa in any Nigerian university of your choice. You will know what it takes to successfully gain admission into the Arts and Humanities faculty of any Nigerian university to study Hausa. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body in Nigeria saddled with the responsibility to conduct matriculation examination and admit students into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The requirements to study Hausa in Nigerian universities stated in this post are as spelt out on pages 179 to 182 of the current JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS). UTME / O’ level subject requirements to study Hausa in Nigerian universities
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language and Hausa
JAMB UTME subject combination requirements to study Hausa in Nigerian universities
JAMB UTME subjects are the subjects which you must write in the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME subject combination requirement for Hausa is as follows:
Hausa, Literature in English and any of Economics, Government, History and Arabic.
Direct Entry requirements to study Hausa in Nigerian universities
Two (2) A’ Level passes in Hausa and any other relevant subjects.
Special considerations for Direct Entry
(i) ABU accepts Two ‘A’ level passes including Hausa at IJMB/ NCE, or a minimum of Merit at Diploma in Hausa or with other subjects. General English/Use of English at NCE satisfies’ O’ level English requirement.
(ii) BAYERO, MAIDUGURI and UDU accept NCE with Hausa major.
(iii) UMYUK accepts candidates with a minimum of 9 points in IJMB/HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level/NCE in Hausa and any other Arts or Social Science subject. Candidates with a minimum of lower credit pass in Diploma in Hausa from recognized institutions may also be admitted.
(iv) FED-KASHERE accepts Two ‘A’ Level credit passes in Hausa and any other Arts subject.
(v) KASU accepts Two ‘A’ Level/IJMB passes in Hausa and any other relevant subject. NCE merit pass and ND/HND in Hausa Translation or its equivalent at Lower credit in addition to general ‘O’ Level requirements
(vi) SOSU accepts A minimum of merit in NCE or at least lower credit in Diploma in Mass Communication or Translation.
(vii) FED-DUTSINMA accepts Two ‘A’ level passes in Hausa and one other Arts subject. ND/ NCE with good grades in the relevant area.
Special considerations for UTME
(i) ABU requires Five Credits O/L in Hausa, English and three Arts or Social Science Subjects.
(ii) BAYERO requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Hausa plus three (3) other subjects
(iii) UMYUK requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes or its equivalent including English Language, Hausa and any other three (3) Arts/Social Science subjects with ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.
(iv) FED-KASHERE require Five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Hausa and any other two from Arts Social Science subjects.
(v) KASU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Hausa and two other subjects in Arts or social Sciences.
(vi) SOSU requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, and Hausa Language and two (2) other Arts/Social Science subjects at not more than two sittings.
(vii) FED-DUTSINMA requires Five ‘O’ level Credits to include: English Language, Mathematics, Hausa and any two of Arts or Social Sciences Subjects
Special considerations for UTME Subjects
(i) BAYERO and UDU accept Hausa plus any other two (2) Arts subjects.
(ii) KASU requires Hausa and two other subjects in Arts or Social sciences.
(iii) SLUK accepts Hausa plus any two (2) Arts and/or Social Science subjects.
(iv) FED-GUSAU requires Hausa and two (2) Arts subjects.
(v) MAIDUGURI requires any three (3) subjects.
(vi) UMYUK requires Hausa and any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.
(vii) ABU requires Use of English, Hausa and any other two Arts/social science subjects.
(viii) FED-KASHERE requires Hausa, one Art and one subject from Economics, French, Geography, Government, History and Literature in English
(ix) SOSU requires Hausa and any two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects.
(x) FED-DUTSINMA requires English Language, Hausa and any two of Arts or Social Sciences subjects.
